Membership Experience

Blue Mound Golf and Country Club has been providing its members with an excellent golfing experience for over 100 years. The Club has 18 challenging holes, an elegant and welcoming clubhouse, fine food, a variety of special activities and a dedicated staff. The Blue Mound experience is embodied by the kind of satisfying golf and rewarding social experiences found in the country’s finest clubs. Virtually at the center of the metropolitan area, the Club has a beautiful 200-acre site in Wauwatosa. The location is convenient for members who live in the Lake Country or on Milwaukee’s East Side as well as any of the western suburbs.

Blue Mound’s golf course has been recognized as a top 200 golf course nationally by Golf Digest as well as being included among the top 50 on Golf Digest's list of the most fun to play private courses in the country.  The course was designed by renowned architect Seth Raynor, and features one of the finest collections of Raynor par three holes in the country.  The course has been restored and is maintained under the watchful eye of Bruce Heppner, a leading golf course consultant, to remain true to the original design while maximizing its signature features.  The course features a state-of-the-art irrigation system that allows us to strategically and efficiently manage and optimize course conditioning.

The Club offers a variety of competitive events for members and guests and has hosted several prestigious national tournaments over the years including, the 1933 PGA Tournament, the Western Golf Association Junior Championship in 2010, and the U.S. Amateur Championship in 2011.

Lined with mature maple, oak and other native trees, as well as flowering trees and bushes, Blue Mound is an oasis of green space. Landscaped gardens, stone bridges, streams and ponds add extra beauty to the natural setting. Designed as a walking course, it has manicured fairways, firm and challenging greens, strategically placed bunkers and beautiful vistas. The course is 6,666 yards from the black tees, 6,323 from the blue, and 5,895 from the white.

Under the guidance of Director of Golf Barry Linhart and nationally recognized Director of Instruction Jim Schuman, our members enjoy top-notch teaching.  Our practice facilities include a conveniently located practice range, designed for all types of shots and distances, a separate bunker and chipping green for short game work, and a large putting green.

Availability is one of the most valued aspects of the golf course. Blue Mound is known as a club where members may walk on and play.  Reservations are seldom necessary (there are no tee times during member play) and golfers generally do not experience a wait at the first tee. Members expect to play in 3 ½ to 4 hours during peak times. Playing an 18-hole round with a spouse, child or friend in less than three hours is not unusual.  The Club’s pro shop staff proactively promotes upcoming events and offers a unique “match-making” approach to help members arrange games and play with a variety of their peers.

Caddies are readily available in the summer and receive training through the Club’s extensive caddy program. Many of the young men and women who caddy at Blue Mound qualify for the prestigious Evans Scholars program, which covers the full cost of a college education.

Blue Mound is usually one of the first Milwaukee area clubs to begin play in the spring (normally in March), due to our higher location and excellent drainage. Diligent leaf removal from fairways, bunkers and rough allows for play in October and November. The flags are left in the cups until snow flies.

The Playing Schedule provides a variety of golfing opportunities for members and their families.  Players often adjourn to the grill or the Raynor Room after their rounds for lunch or dinner, conversation, cards or a drink. Events ranging from a get-acquainted breakfast followed by golf, all-member days, member-guest functions and club matches help build camaraderie.

The golf committees sponsor special activities including tournaments, guest days, Sunday couples events, Friday night dinner and golf parties, and couples invitationals.

Blue Mound members have the opportunity to join competitive golf teams that play in Men’s District, Men’s Senior District and Women’s Senior District. The teams play matches with members of other area country clubs.

The active junior program serves members’ children and grandchildren who are interested in learning how to play golf (or how to play golf better). They participate in several classes during the summer, receiving instruction from the Club’s professionals and playing the course. Junior golf provides a way for young players to grow to enjoy good golf throughout their business and personal lives. The opportunity to play other area clubs is available to qualified 18-hole players through the junior district program.

Social activities are varied and continue throughout the year at Blue Mound. The major social event of the season is an elegant summer party.  Other events include gourmet dinner parties, wine tastings, and several member-guest golf and dinner functions. The annual three-day Blue Mound Invitational is an excellent opportunity to host business or personal friends.  And the newly expanded Grill Room provides a lively and welcoming space for informal fellowship at the bar or a delicious dinner with friends at one of the tables.

Additional Club activities include fashion shows, lectures, trips to Chicago for shopping or theatre, bridge groups and other events. Fundraisers for breast cancer research and scholarship funds are part of some golf events.

The clubhouse, built of lannon stone in 1926, has been thoughtfully maintained and was expanded in 2017 to enhance the Blue Mound experience. The Cotswold-style structure remains an architectural masterpiece both inside and out. The formal dining room, which can accommodate 250 guests, is beautifully furnished to enhance elegant dining, large parties, wedding receptions, other member-sponsored events and Club social programs. Three private dining rooms also are available for breakfast, luncheon or dinner meetings of eight to 40 people. Groups of family, friends, or business colleagues enjoy holding functions in these smaller, enclosed areas.

Service is a hallmark of the Club. Blue Mound has a reputation for providing outstanding service by its long-tenured staff that provides outstanding personal attention.

Finances are overseen by a conscientious, experienced Board of Directors. The Club is financially strong and fiscally conservative.

Blue Mound provides the perfect setting for great golf, great friends and great memories – we invite you to join in the Blue Mound Experience.
